Sherman is a teacher, writer, networker, collaborator, and mentor. He has worked in information technology, church ministry, higher education and missions mobilization. In these fields, he is described as highly personable and relatable, knowledgeable and organized individual who fosters collaboration.
He came to know about Jesus through the influence of high school friends during his parent’s separation. Their encouragement and support prompted him to want to learn more about the God and Bible they believed in. A few months later, through attending youth group at a local church, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. This was in August 1991 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where he was born and raised.
In 1992, he immigrated to Canada for his undergraduate studies. Sherman chose to attend Trinity Western University as he wanted to grow in his new faith and biblical knowledge. While there, he also learned about leadership and ministry serving as a student leader to international students and missionary kids. It was through this ministry that he met his future wife, Shari, who was born in Canada but raised in Ecuador by parents who were missionaries with HCJB World Radio (now Reach Beyond). Shari serves at Focus on the Family (Canada). They celebrated 26 years of marriage in 2023 and have a daughter.
Sherman graduated from TWU earning both a Bachelor of Arts in History (1997) and Master of Arts in Christian Studies (2005), and later a Doctor of Intercultural Studies from Western Seminary, Portland, in 2022. He is recognized in the field of intercultural studies within the Canadian Christian context and teaches intercultural ministry courses at Pacific Life Bible College. Furthermore, his articles have been published in Church for Vancouver, Light Magazine, Faith Today and Lausanne Global Analysis and has presented academic papers at the Evangelical Missiological Society annual meeting and JaffrayAng Symposium. Lastly, Sherman has served on the boards of Place of Refuge and Outreach Canada.
His vocational objective is to advance the development and praxis of intercultural ministry in the Canadian multicultural context by discipling Jesus followers to think theologically about culture, develop intercultural competencies and live missionally with boldness and grace in his role as pastor at Killarney Park MB Church.
