Sherman Lau

Sherman is a teacher, networker, and collaborator who has served in Christian ministry for more than 20 years through church leadership, theological education, and missions mobilization. He is deeply committed to equipping others for faithful service and is known for his relational approach, sound theological insight, and strong organizational leadership.

He came to know about Jesus through the influence of his high school friends during his parents’ separation. Their encouragement and support sparked his desire to learn more about the God and Bible they believed in. A few months later, after attending a youth group at a local church, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. This took place in August 1991 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he was born and raised.

In 1992, he immigrated to Canada to pursue his undergraduate studies. Sherman chose to attend Trinity Western University, hoping to grow in his new faith and deepen his biblical knowledge. During his time there, he also developed leadership and ministry skills while serving as a student leader to international students and missionary kids.

Through this ministry, he met his future wife, Shari. Although she was born in Canada, she was raised in Ecuador by parents who served as missionaries with HCJB World Radio (now Reach Beyond). Shari currently serves at Focus on the Family Canada.

They celebrated 28 years of marriage in 2025 and have one daughter.

Sherman graduated from Trinity Western University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History (1997) and a Master of Arts in Christian Studies (2005). He later completed a Doctor of Intercultural Studies at Western Seminary in Portland in 2022.

He is recognized in the field of intercultural studies within the Canadian Christian context and teaches intercultural ministry courses at Pacific Life Bible College. His articles have been published in Church for Vancouver, Light Magazine, Faith Today, and Lausanne Global Analysis. He has also presented academic papers for the Evangelical Missiological Society and JaffrayAng Symposium.

In addition, Sherman has served on the boards of Place of Refuge and Outreach Canada.

His vocational objective is to advance the development and practice of intercultural ministry within Canada’s multicultural context. In his role as pastor at Killarney Park MB Church, he disciples followers of Jesus to think theologically about culture, develop intercultural competencies, and live missionally with boldness and grace.
