Sherman is an educator, writer, networker, collaborator, mentor and strategic thinker. He has worked in information technology, church ministry, Christian higher education and missions advancement. In these fields, he is described as highly personable and relatable, an encourager of sharing ideas to cultivate creative solutions and strong bridge-builder to foster collaboration.
He came to know about Jesus through the influence of high school friends during his parent’s separation. Their encouragement and support prompted him to want to learn more about the God and Bible they believed in. A few months later, through attending youth group at a local church, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. This was in August 1991 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where he was born and raised.
In 1992, he immigrated to Canada for his undergraduate studies. Sherman chose to attend Trinity Western University as he wanted to grow in his new faith and biblical knowledge. While there, he also learned about leadership and ministry serving as a student leader to international students and missionary kids. It was through this ministry that he met his future wife, Shari, who was born in Canada but raised in Ecuador by parents who were missionaries with Reach Beyond Canada. They celebrated 25 years of marriage in 2022 and have a daughter.
Sherman graduated from TWU earning both a Bachelor of Arts in History (1997) and Master of Arts in Christian Studies (2005), and recently with a Doctor of Intercultural Studies (2022) from Western Seminary, Portland, Oregon. He is recognized as an emerging scholar in the field of intercultural studies and missiology in the Canadian context. His articles have been published in Church for Vancouver, Light Magazine, Faith Today and Lausanne Global Analysis. Furthermore, he has presented academic papers for the Evangelical Missiological Society and JaffrayAng Symposium. Lastly, Sherman currently serves on the boards of Outreach Canada, Place of Refuge and The Word Guild.
His vocational objective is to advance the development and praxis of intercultural ministry in the Canadian multicultural context by discipling Jesus followers to think and reflect theologically, grow interculturally as well as live missionally with boldness and grace in his role as pastor at Killarney Park MB Church.
